a bit about me
Graduating in marketing in the mid-90s, I coupled those skills with my love of music, working in the then-nascent superclub scene; leading promo teams for Ministry of Sound, both in London and Ibiza. I was then head-hunted to head up the Spanish team at Privilege Ibiza, delivering sell-out events for two seasons
Returning to UK, I took a short break to set up a small graphic design business. However the lure of good gigs brought me back to events, and I joined the team at The Big Chill; a pioneering UK festival. After six years, in a variety of roles including communications and sponsorship procurement, the festival had grown to 30,000 people and the company also ran two London venues, one of which I programmed
Taking voluntary redundancy after the festival was sold, I moved to a marketing agency working with some of the most prominent UK arts & leisure organisations to build my cross-artform experience. The opportunity then arose to run the comms campaign for the Mayor’s Thames Festival; London’s largest multi-arts event - giving me valuable experience in working with local authority teams. I stayed for three festivals, only leaving after we had delivered the closing party for the 2012 Olympics, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Flotilla
I moved to live music producers Serious in 2013, as an Associate Director of the company heading up the Communications team. The company produces everything from small intimate club gigs through to outdoor events - running over 630 events in 300 venues each year, live audiences of over 320,000 and a digital reach of 44 million
The upheaval of the events industry in 2020 as a result of Covid-19 pushed me down the path to freelance work; encouraging me to take a jump I’d already been considering and preparing for
